PUNGO — A local man died on Thursday, Feb. 16, in a collision involving a motorcycle at the intersection of Princess Anne and Malbon roads, according to Virginia Beach police.

Police identified him as Wesley Whitehurst, 38, and said he was operating a motorcycle that collided with the driver’s side of another vehicle.

Officials responded to a crash reported at 9:37 p.m. that night and found Whitehurst unresponsive. He was declared dead at the scene by emergency medical services officials.

The other driver, who was not at fault in the crash, was unhurt and remained at the scene, according to police.

Whitehurst was described in an obituary as a kind person who learned to love the natural world during his childhood in Pungo.

“Wes loved spending time on the land and the water where he hunted and fished with his family and friends,” the obituary said. “Wes was also a talented craftsman and loved to create and build.”
