From the Editor: The Independent News is ending print distribution on Knotts Island

BY JOHN-HENRY DOUCETTE

BACK BAY — I’ve made the difficult decision to end distribution of The Independent News to Knotts Island, N.C.

This includes a handful of copies I was bringing down to Gibbs Woods.

I feel bad about this, but it’s the right call for the newspaper while I wrestle with how to best pay for journalism in Virginia Beach. That is the newspaper’s mission, and it is where our print circulation is growing. That’s where my resources need to go.

The paper is still available right up the road at R-Co or Blackwater Trading Post, among other spots. It won’t break my heart if folks grab a few copies and bring them south to their neighbors.

I’m grateful for the organizations that have supported to newspaper in the past. I hope to be down to keep covering stories when I can.

Thanks for understanding.
