PUNGO — The community came out as a “Hudson Strong” force of love on Sunday, Feb. 10, at Blue Pete’s Restaurant to raise money for a foundation carrying forward the memory of Hudson R. Foschi, the 4-year-old Pungo child who in January died after a tragic accident.
The Hudson Strong Foundation hopes to raise $40,000 to build a playground at the preschool at Charity United Methodist Church, and funds that surpass that goal will support a scholarship in Hudson’s name, according to the foundation website.
“The preschool thought it would be a wonderful idea to name the playground as Hudson’s Playground,” said the Rev. David Ryu of Charity during the fundraiser.
Rural communities and beyond have shown solidarity with the Foschi family through gestures such as light blue ribbons and bows tied to mailboxes, signs and poles.
The packed fundraiser at Blue Pete’s continued that support, speaking to the character of the greater Pungo community.
“We’ll all come together and say, ‘We’ve got your back,’” Ryu said.
