Mr. Taylor Goes To Washington
State Del. Scott Taylor defeated U.S. Rep. Randy Forbes of Chesapeake in the GOP primary to represent the 2nd Congressional District. Forbes had been trying to represent the second following redistricting, but Virginia Beach voters rejected him, and Taylor ultimately won the general election, as well. Pungo Strawberry Festival
The Pungo Strawberry Festival dignitaries this year were Honorary Mayor Frank Craft Jr., Grand Marshal U.S. Navy Capt. Frank Hughlett, First Lady Lisa Craft, and Witch of Pungo Laurie Simpson. Hughlett, who serves as commander, Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, said the festival is a great event because “it has a lot of local flavor that has wide attraction” for the community. Release The Tape
In February, Gina Best, India Kager's mother, sought release of police video of the September 2015 incident during which her daughter was killed. She led a protest at the 7-Eleven where the shooting between city police and Angelo Perry took place. Kager was in the car with Perry and their infant child together. The infant survived unharmed. Changing Of The Guard

Unauthorized Farming
City land along Salem Road where two farming operations, including a hog operation that led to criminal charges, were discovered in late December 2015 and later posted by the city. Soybeans from another field is being placed in the truck. As The Independent News first reported in January, that land, too, was owned by the city.
