SANDBRIDGE — Though it was delayed by weather by a day, the Party at the Pier brought people together on the beach at Little Island Park on Saturday, June 18, for dancing in the sand to the tunes of The Rhondels.

“It’s a great group of people who come out to have a good time,” said The Rhondels’ Edgar Justus.

The band played last year, too.

The event is the brainchild of Amanda Parrish, a city recreational specialist who grew up in Virginia Beach — and visiting the beach at Sandbridge with family.

She loves the Oceanfront, but she said Sandbridge is a special place that has the character of being a beach for locals — and it’s a great venue for the event.

“If it was up to me, it would be a concert series,” she said.

The event was sponsored by Siebert Realty in coordination with the city parks department. As Siebert Realty’s Patrick Keenan put it: “It’s a good Sandbridge thing.”

So good, in fact, that a second Party at the Pier is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 2, at the park.
