CREEDS — Gabrielle Taylor, 14, and guests gathered at the Creeds Ruritan Community Complex on Sunday, June 5, to watch a screening of part of an HBO documentary that includes a look at Taylor’s work as a young beekeeper through Virginia Beach 4-H.
The documentary series Saving My Tomorrow has only aired in part, and on a seemingly erratic schedule, but HBO provided a copy of the episode starring Taylor.
She said was excited to see it with family and friends, despite the wait for a clip filmed two years ago.
She said she was proud to spread the word about beekeeping in a documentary discussing sustainable practices.
Why keep bees?
“Just knowing I do something to help the environment,” she said, adding that she wanted to raise awareness about their benefits.
Jay Houk of Deep Creek, one of Taylor’s mentors, said he was impressed that Taylor is a young person determined to do something with her life at an impressively young age.
Terri Adams, Taylor’s mother, said she was proud that her daughter is so committed to making wise decisions about the world.
“There’s not many children her age who do as much as she does for the environment or care as much for the environment,” she said.
