COURTHOUSE – The planning commission voted on Wednesday, May 11, to recommend approval of a conditional use permit change to allow a third guest room, an expanded open-air pavillion and daily breakfast service for guests at the Country Villa Inn, a bed and breakfast and day spa along Indian River Road in Pungo.
Karen Beardslee Kwasny, who represents the Princess Anne District on the commission, said the bed and breakfast was in a good location for its events — it is a popular wedding venue — and that there was no opposition to the request.
There is city-owned property behind the land and neighbors are not too close by in the area which is zoned agricultural.
Petie Bonifant, who owns the country inn with her husband, Phil Bonifant, said in an interview that they are upgrading the business, which has been open since 2002.
“That’s the key — doing things to upgrade,” she said.
“We’re upgrading and trying to make the place look nicer. We’re trying to make sure there’s a large enough covered facility out there in case it rains so there is room for dancing and food. … We’re just trying to make something nice for people.”
