COURTHOUSE — An adult beagle suffering from a tumor on her side was discovered in a crate left in a ditch along Winston Avenue over the weekend, according to city animal control.

Investigators want help from the public to identify the dog or her owner, according to a statement released on Wednesday, May 18, by Animal Control Supervisor Meghan Conti.

A citizen located the dog and called it in on Saturday, Conti wrote. An animal control officer responded to the 3600 block of Winston Avenue and located the dog, which was in its crate.

The dog was described as a “try-colored female beagle with a large tumor on her left side,” Conti wrote in the statement to reporters.

Animal Control Officer John Thompson is leading the investigation. The public is asked to call (888) LOCK-U-UP or text “VBTIP” and any information to CRIMES [274637].
