COURTHOUSE — Rocky Holcomb, who has served as Virginia Beach’s sheriff since the retirement of former Sheriff Ken Stolle last year, on Tuesday, Nov. 5, won a special election to complete the term Stolle began.

Holcomb, a Republican who is a former state legislator and member of the City Council, earned nearly 72 percent of the vote, according to unofficial returns reported by the state elections department as of this past week.

Holcomb is a career member of the sheriff’s office who was the highest-ranking deputy when Stolle retired.

On Election Day, Holcomb  defeated Aldo DiBelardino, an independent candidate who is a businessperson and inventor.

Holcomb, during an interview, thanked voters and said he is looking forward to continuing to serve.

“There’s nothing in the world like being cleansed by the will of the voter,” Holcomb said. “I was able to stand before the will of the voter and return. …

“I just want to thank them,” he added. “I want to make sure the citizens understand how much I appreciate their support, and I’ll always be a sheriff for all people.”
