BACK BAY — City firefighters extinguished a fire in marshland in rural Virginia Beach on Saturday, March 5.

Units from Station 6 at Creeds responded to the scene of the fire along Mill Landing Road near the boat ramp.

The fire was contained in marshland that appeared to consist largely of phragmites located between the road and the bay. It was extinguished prior to 9 p.m.

Fire Capt. Bart Gamboni of Station 6 said it was uncertain how the fire started, and the matter would be turned over to the fire marshal’s office for investigation.
