Pungo Christmas tree lighting is today in the gateway to rural Virginia Beach

PUNGO — Today the 14th Annual Pungo Village Christmas Tree Lighting will bring people – and Santa, The Independent News can report on good authority – to “downtown” Pungo, the gateway to rural Virginia Beach.

The annual community gathering is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 4, near the intersection of Princess Anne and Indian River roads in the village. A rain date for the event is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 5.

The gathering is sponsored each year by the Pungo Village Landowners Association, and it is free and open to the public. Attendees can enjoy hot chocolate, music and other goodies.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a blankets and chairs, as well as a new toy for donation through Toys for Tots.
