Dear Editor:
Companies and government officials alike need to show a unified commitment for a more sustainable future. It’s important not just for us, but for generations to come.
The governor and the state legislature have set goals and guidelines to ensure an improved, cleaner future, as the commonwealth aims to increase renewable energy use and the creation of clean energy jobs.
I’m excited about the changes that are coming and for projects like Dominion Energy’s offshore wind farm that’s being built off the coast of Virginia Beach. This project will be the largest offshore wind farm in the country and is a critical step toward a sustainable future for Virginia.
In addition to the environmental benefits, solar and wind are the fastest-growing job categories in the U.S. and provide high-skilled and high-paying career opportunities for Virginians. Virginia’s world-class infrastructure and workforce have gotten the attention of this $70 billion dollar industry, and we have the potential to become a service hub for the construction and maintenance of offshore wind developments – for Virginia’s coast and potentially for projects along the eastern seaboard.
I applaud these efforts to prioritize renewable energy and to seize upon this significant opportunity to diversify and grow our regional economy.
