VIRGINIA BEACH — Tim Anderson, an attorney who has been outspoken on issues such as gun rights, defeated two people to win the Republican nomination in the 83rd Virginia House District, and he will challenge incumbent Nancy Guy, a Democrat who is seeking her second term.

Anderson’s closest competition came from former state Del. Chris Stolle, a physician who held the 83rd District seat until his narrow loss two years ago to Guy.

Anderson won 48 percent of the vote, and Stolle won 47.2 percent, and the number of votes between them – 24 – was razor thin, according to returns updated on Monday, June 14. A third candidate, realtor Philip Kazmierczak, earned 4.7 percent of the vote.

Stolle on Monday, June 14, conceded the race in a statement released on social media following a canvass by elections officials in Norfolk and Virginia Beach.

“Another close election in the 83rd District, and while I would have liked a different outcome, I am grateful for the generous support of our volunteers, donors and voters,” Stolle said. “… As the results have now been certified, I encourage everyone in the 83rd District to rally behind our Republican nominee, Tim Anderson.”

“It appears that I have won the nomination in the 83rd District,” Anderson said in a video posted to social media on Wednesday, June 9. On Friday, June 11, he added, via social media, “We won. This primary fight was as much about you as it was about me.”

At his website, Anderson said the general election would be won not on campaign money, an area in which he presently trails the incumbent, but on issues such as improving pay for police, campaign finance reform and term limits.

He noted Stolle’s close loss to Guy – only 27 votes – and said he will bring more energy to this year’s contest than did his Republican predecessor.
