Virginia Beach libraries adjust services due to Covid resurgence

THE INDEPENDENT NEWS

VIRGINIA BEACH — City libraries are readjusting their operations due to the rising transmission rates for the novel coronavirus, which causes the disease Covid-19.

Services will be limited to either lobby or drive-up services, and two locations – the Oceanfront Area Library and the Princess Anne Area Library – will provide both, according to a statement released the city last week.

Changes are scheduled to go into effect on Monday, Nov. 30. Holds can be picked up at most locations from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Mondays through Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays.

Lobby service only is available at the Central, Great Neck, Joint-Use Library, Kempsville and Windsor Woods locations.

However, the Joint-Use Library hours may vary. It remains open for Tidewater Community College students and personnel, though the city reported that general library customers should check hours for customer holds online via vbgov.com/libraries.

Once at that page, hours can by found by clicking on a link in the menu on the left side of the page or by using this direct link.

The Bayside & Special Services Library will offer drive-up service only.

And the Pungo-Blackwater branch and the Wahab Public Law Library are closed. The Pungo-Blackwater branch serving rural communities is undergoing renovations.
