Taking Aim
John Reedy of Suffolk takes aim during a charitable turkey shoot held this spring behind the Knotts Island Fire Station. The turkey shoots are hosted by the Knotts Island Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, which supports rescue service on the island and hosts a number of events for the community. Burning Questions
A home on the 2000 block of Princess Anne Road was burned during a Virginia Beach Fire Department training event in April. The event was the subject of criticism from regulators over the failure by the department to determine whether asbestos was present before burning the house. Fire Safety
City Auditor Lyndon Remias addressed the City Council during a meeting on Tuesday, June 5, at City Hall. The auditor released a critical report in the wake of a live burn training event along Princess Anne Road. He criticized the fire department for its handling of paperwork in the event after asbestos was found at the site of a house that had been burned for training purposes. Community Gathering
On Friday, June 15, people gathered at the future home of the Crescent Community Center at Salem and Landstown roads for an Eid al-Fitr picnic following the holy month of Ramadan. Henley Returns
City Councilmember Barbara Henley, seen at her family farm in Pungo, will return to represent the Princess Anne District on the Virginia Beach City Council. Henley won reelection on Tuesday, Nov. 6, defeating two challengers, Tim Worst of Lago Mar and Dr. Karen Beardslee Kwasny of Ashville Park. A fourth candidate, the Rev.
