Letter: Passing along our community newspaper —and local candidate positions — on Election Day

Dear Editor:

I was pleased that your Friday, Oct. 26, edition featured all of the candidates. I found the information to be very helpful. Now, I know it is easy to find information with just the click of a button these days, but it’s just not the same as holding the print version in your hands. I was able to flip from page to page and get information about the candidates.

I try to keep a copy of your paper in my vehicle or in a bag that I’m carrying. That proved to be very helpful as I worked the polls for City Councilmember Barbara Henley. I was a little hesitant when the Virginia Beach Education Association Political Action Committee of Educators asked if I would give out their information, as well. They added that if I didn’t feel comfortable, I didn’t have to do it.

I was surprised with the lack of knowledge that folks had in understanding how or even whom to vote for. There were a lot of first-time voters, and they were very thrilled to tell me that, especially the moms and dads who gave me their phones to take pictures of the important day.

I went out to my vehicle and got your paper, and, as they waited in line, they had all of the information they needed about all of the candidates, not just the ones on the papers that I was passing out to them. After each person read, they passed the paper to the next person in line.

I do hope that others will do as I’m doing and keep the Oct. 26 edition of the paper. In less than two years some of these same candidates will be running again, and the other School Board and City Council candidates will be running, as well.
