On Wednesday, Feb. 14, police reported that a call about a serious motorcycle crash on the 3700 block of West Neck Road came in at about 2:30 p.m., Tuesday.

Police determined Bird was travelling northbound on West Neck Road and lost control while approaching a sharp curve, according to a statement released by Master Police Officer Linda Kuehn, a Virginia Beach Police Department spokesperson.

The motorcycle left a roadway and struck a tree, and the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, Kuehn wrote.

Portions of the road were closed for nearly three hours while public safety personnel worked at the scene. The road reopened at approximately 5:30 p.m.

Officials worked near a nearly 90 degree bend in the road near a wooded area southeast of West Landing Road.
