Updated: Police officer on motorcycle injured in crash with SUV on Dam Neck Road in Virginia Beach

LANDSTOWN — A Virginia Beach police officer was injured this morning during a crash on the 3400 block of Dam Neck Road and taken to a local hospital, according to police.

Master Police Officer Tonya Pierce, a spokesperson for the police department, said during an interview that the collision between a sport utility vehicle and the officer’s motorcycle occurred in an area near South Rosemont Road and Monet Drive.

In a statement, Pierce said the motorcycle officer was headed east on Dam Neck Road to respond to a crash near London Bridge Road at 10:16 a.m.

The officer had their lights and sirens on, but they collided with the driver of a Nissan SUV while the officer was passing South Rosemont Road, according to Pierce.

The driver of the SUV was not injured, and they remained at the scene.

Part of Dam Neck Road was closed in that area due to the crash, but it reopened before 1 p.m., the department announced via Twitter.

The officer had injuries that were not life-threatening and was being treated for them this afternoon.

The accident remained under investigation.
