CREEDS — The Creeds Athletic Association recently completed a season of youth basketball that marked the return of the sport of the city’s southernmost reaches.

The Creeds Tar Heels defeated the Creeds Celtics, 18-17, to win the Junior Farm Championship. Brody Beasley led scoring in the contest with 8 points.

In the Senior Farm Division, the Creeds Tar Heels prevailed over the Knotts Island Knicks, 34-22, after pulling ahead late in the game. Brett Beasley had 12 points to lead scoring.

Ken Beasley coached both Tar Heels teams. He is the association’s vice president and organized the program with Jac Johnson, the group’s parliamentarian.

“I was blessed with a bunch of great kids and parents, much as the ones all across our awesome community,” Beasley wrote via email.

Johnson, also via email, wrote that the season exceeded expectations, and the league thanked Casey Conger, principal of Creeds Elementary School, and the many sponsors and volunteers who supported a new league that saw 80 young players.

According to Johnson, the association saw the season as a success, though it came together quickly and included the purchase of new portable goals and other equipment.

“This equipment is an investment in the community, and will be instrumental in helping us reach our goal next year of getting 120 participants signed up to play,” he wrote.
