COURTHOUSE – Virginia Beach needs volunteers, including those willing to suit up as a mascot, to help upcoming events.

The events are the Earth Day celebration at Mount Trashmore on Saturday, April 23, and the Great American Cleanup event at Beach Garden Park on Saturday, May 14.

For Earth Day, volunteers are needed to staff a recycling booth and give out information on waste reduction and recycling, according to a statement released by the city.

And the city is looking for those capable of filling the mighy, oversized shoes of RC, a mascot of city public works waste management’s recycling efforts.

RC happens to look like the very blue containers folks put out each week to recycle, among other things, closely-read community newspapers.

For the cleanup, volunteers are sought to paint and prune, remove debris and litter and other tasks, according to the city.
