Two hurt in Back Bay when motorcycle leaves Mill Landing Road

BACK BAY – Two people were hurt early this afternoon when a motorcycle went off Mill Landing Road and they were thrown off the bike, police said.

A man, driving, and a woman, his passenger, left the road on the lefthand side and entered the shoulder while traveling southeast on the slender, winding path some know for its boat ramp.

“Their injuries are serious but not life threatening,” said Master Police Officer Kathrin Lobaugh, a spokesperson who was reached by phone.

The crash happened at about 12:28 p.m. on the 1300 block of the Mill Landing Road, according to a police statement released this afternoon.

Police and rescue officials responded to the scene of the crash, and the motorcyclist and his passenger were taken to a local hospital, the statement said.

Alcohol is not suspected in the crash, though its cause is under investigation, according to the statement. Officer D. Godwin is heading things up.

On Saturday afternoon, Community Services Officer C.M. Rowley of the First Precinct managed traffic where Mill Landing and Stone roads meet, keeping some residents from heading to where investigators worked. One headed home on foot.

The roadblock also thwarted a few boaters headed toward the ramp. Reporters were not allowed close to the scene.

Rowley, a retired city firefighter, moved orange cones for a white van heading the opposite way.

The van’s driver, calling out the window, said: “Say some prayers for that young man.”
